Cancer Care Pillow Ministry
The Salvation Army’s motto “Heart to God – hand to man” is the motivation for this project. We would like breast cancer patients to know that there is someone who cares for them in their time of need. We do this because of the love and care God freely gives to us.
Cancer care pillows are given to breast cancer patients post mastectomy or reconstructive surgery. The pillows can be placed under the arm to cushion the incision and apply pressure. In the car, the pillows are placed under the seat belt to protect sensitive areas while driving. They can be used to cushion the arm during chemotherapy infusions and for additional comfort while sleeping.
The pillows are made with care and prayer as a ministry to breast cancer patients, so are given free of charge. Volunteers are needed to help with the various aspects of making the pillows. We gladly accept donations such as cotton fabric with bright, cheerful and/or comforting patterns and colors, muslin and fiber fill from individuals or stores. Individuals are needed to wash, iron and accurately cut the fabric. Experienced seamstresses are needed to sew the pillows and/or covers with care, accuracy and precision. When the pillows and covers are sewn, they are returned to The Salvation Army Centennial Corps for quality control and then stamped, stuffed and distributed.
While our goal is to give pillows to everyone who needs or wants one, our resources are limited so we cannot mail or deliver pillows. Pillows can be picked up at our location in Centennial but call ahead or email to schedule a time and check availability. Our preferred mode of distribution is through oncologist offices.
